European Lagers range in style and flavour, but can principally be divided into two categories: Pilsners and Amber/Dark Lagers.
European Style Lager Pilsners are golden in colour, with low-medium bitterness. The hop bouquet is likely herbal or spicy, and the residual malt sweetness is low.
European Style Amber/Dark Lagers are pale amber to dark brown. The aroma exhibits notes of roasted malt, biscuit, bread, and mild chocolate. Hop flavours and aromas should be derived from noble hop types (link to terms page). Residual sweetness should be low to medium-low and the beer should finish crisply with a balance between malt sweetness and hop character.
